The Big Blue Sky InitiativeSM
Together the blue sky is the limit to what we can do to make everyone happy and healthy.SM So Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana launched a statewide Big Blue Sky Initiative to help fight opioid abuse, rising suicide rates and meth and heroin epidemics. The Big Blue Sky Initiative is ready to put resources in the hands of the communities we serve, so we all get through this together. By bringing health care providers, community groups, state government and other stakeholders together to fight this fight, we can set a positive example for years to come. Because with everyone’s help, there’s hope.
Bullying
In Montana, bullying is a significant problem, consistently ranking as one of the top self-reported safety concerns among students in our state’s schools. According to the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) 
, 21.6% of Montana students in grades 9-12 said they were bullied on school property in the previous 12 months and 17.6% of students said they were cyberbullied – both higher than the national average. In the fight against bullying, we encourage you to use the resources provided here to learn more about the problem, take action in your community or to find support if you or someone you know is affected. Together, we can make a difference. We all need to Shield our kids from bullying.SM
Suicide Prevention
As Montanans, we like to be first. But not when it comes to our staggering suicide rate. Sadly, 24 out of every 100,000 people here in Montana will die by suicide each year. And 25 percent of young people have thought about taking their own lives. Remember, at the first sign of concern, reach out to them, then reach out for help. To help you help the ones you love, we’re providing resources and connecting you to our partners in this effort to help change the narrative in Montana.
Drug Addiction, Misuse and Abuse
In the fight against drug addiction, misuse and abuse in our community, we are shining a bright light on the epidemic. We’re working diligently with our local, state and federal lawmakers to put pressure on those who distribute substances illegally. We’re also finding ways to help generate more resources for those who are battling addiction, misuse and abuse on the front lines. We encourage you to use the resources provided here to help end the devastation illegal distribution and drug addiction are having on our communities.
